In mid-May, The National news on CBC carried a story about the preparations Whitehorse is making to reduce the wildfire risk to the city. WAS member Sandy Johnston is featured with his comments on living hear the firebreak and using a home-made debris remover in his roof gutters. Sandy and Community Services Minister Richard Mostyn tried to make the point that residential firesmarting is also an essential component of wildfire risk reduction. Unfortunately, this key point didn’t make the focus on the fuelbreak.
