Are you prepared?

Wildfire season is upon us in the Yukon but are you prepared? In case of a wildfire threatening residencies, evacuation alerts or orders can be put in place to prepare you for the potential need to leave your house and find refuge in a safer place.

  • An evacuation alert is warning that conditions may require evacuation soon and gives you time to prepare by gathering essentials, make plans for your pets or livestock, contact relative in a safer area or install sprinkler systems.

  • An evacuation order means that you need to leave your property immediately due to an imminent threat. Return to home cannot be done until the order is lifted.

To prepare yourself and your family, make sure to have 72hr emergency kits ready to go (see resources below), include medications, prescription glasses and any other critical items to make your family and pet feel safe. Ensure your vehicle is full of gas, plan for a place to go in the direction of the evacuation, prepare camping gear and sufficient food. Install you home sprinkler system if available. Otherwise wet the area around you home, your roof, siding and decks as much as possible before leaving.
